Scientific standing
Authored over 1,300 peer-reviewed articles, with more than 400,000 citations and an h-index of 259. Elected to the National Academy of Medicine (2004), the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the Johns Hopkins Society of Scholars.
Played a key role in developing t-PA, Plavix (clopidogrel), Angiomax (bivalirudin), and ReoPro (abciximab). Oversaw clinical trials in more than 40 countries involving over 200,000 patients, including the landmark GUSTO series.
